The longer a character has been around and showing opposite sex attraction the more likely it's not going to arrive off when they seem to suddenly change. If there was something that suggested something earlier, like say Iceman with Cloud of The New Defenders they ought to probably recap that to at least try and prevail over longer word readers. If a bad character can become a nice character it is possible for an apparently straight personality to change that way, but with kitty all her interaction with Colossus would have to be explained as extreme over compensation, or else she was always bi just for whatever reason never acted on it.
Or it could just be one of those times where something doesn't work and it comes off as dopey.
I can believe Claremont imaging the women he wrote all existence bi, but I chalk that up to there are fair number of guys who believe that, what was it described as in a feature once... for guys it's like imagining two pieces of candy unwrapping

Warning: contains spoilers for Exceptional X-Men #1Queer identity and politics acquire been an integral part of the X-Men mythos for nearly 50 years. Still, for much of that time, this queerness was relegated to subtext and fan headcanons. Thankfully, in recent years, a major increase in Diverse representation at Marvel Comics has seen beloved heroes like Iceman, Magik, and Kitty Pryde confirmed as queer. While Kitty's queerness was canonized during the Krakoan Age, her modern starring role in Exceptional X-Men may finally consent the beloved hero to explore her sexuality.
After the fall of Krakoa and Kitty Pryde's murderous hour spent as Shadowkat, Kitty decides to formally depart the X-Men and shift back to Chicago... where she has begun trying to live a "normal" life as a bartender.
Exceptional X-Men #1, by penner Eve Ewing and painter Carmen Carnero, sees Kitty getting ready for a date, who she thinks stood her up, before confirming that the treasure interest she was gathering is a woman, confirming once again that Pryde is at the very least

Personally, I find "turning" established characters gay usually jarring and forced. However in this case you have a 20 year old Kitty/Kate Pryde coming out as bisexual, not gay; and in a world where some people don't come to word with their homosexuality or bisexuality until they are in their 60's or older - a 20 year old embracing her bisexuality is hardly unrealistic. And if you want to trace Kitty's complex sexuality, you can travel ALL the way back to DAYS OF FUTURE PAST and the self/lesbian kiss!
