Throughout 2023, pop singer-songwriter Lauv has been exploring his sexuality publicly. It all started in June, when the “I Like Me Better” singer released a TikTok in which he appeared to come out as not straight. The in-video caption of the clip said “when ur dating a girl but ur also a lil bit into men,” while he elaborated in the video caption. “Does it have to be that big of a deal?” he wrote. “i havent done much aside from kiss so tbh don’t wannna vault the gun but tbh i feel things and i dont wanna fictional i dont. :)”

In July, Lauv posted a six minute “update” to his YouTube channel, in which the singer elaborated on his journey with understanding his sexuality. “More recently in my 20s, I’ve pushed it down a lot, and I felt like it was anxiety. Like, I would feel feelings, or experience a connection and a vibe and whatever, and then I would close it down,” he said. “I don’t really include any particular answers yet … it’s something that I’m exploring in my music and exploring in my mind, and I’m going to be e

Lil Nas X: ‘I 100% want to represent the LGBT community’

When Lil Nas X was growing up in the small, conservative collective of Lithia Springs outside Atlanta, Georgia, he was sure of two things. One: he wanted to be an entertainer. Two: he would never approach out of the closet. Only one of those predictions proved to be true.

As a teenager who blasted SoundCloud rappers in his headphones and spent all his free time scrolling through Twitter, Lil Nas X quickly learned that it was easier to fuse in than chance being different. He knew people who had come out at high college, and saw the pain, bullying and homophobia they experienced. He told himself he wasn’t trim out for it. So he dressed in his cousin’s hand-me-downs and, when he could give them, purchased defended , muted clothes from Zara and H&M. He watched fashion shows on his smartphone, but never thought he would be brave or rich enough to wear such explicitly queer outfits.

Lil Nas X threatened to go advocate into the closet after losing in every category he was nominated in at the 2022 Grammy Awards.

The outspoken "Industry Baby" singer handled his decline pretty well as he instantly made a joke that threatened to smash the internet. Lil Nas X had an all rotund eventful night out at the Grammys in Las Vegas, and he made sure to document it all on his Twitter account.

After the ceremony had finished and he realized he'd missing all five categories he was up for, Lil Nas X tweeted, "can't believe i defeated all my grammys. i am now no longer gay!" Within an hour the tweet had gained over 100,000 likes as skillfully as thousands more retweets and comments.

His comment could be a reference to the fact that he won two Grammy Awards for the song "Old Town Road" before he had publicly come out as gay. He continued the joke with a tweet featuring just two emojis.

He went back on his comments just 12 minutes later when he joked that he'd changed his mind on, and that he was planning on having a"good time" at the Grammys after parties.

"But some little boy 10 miles from here, it's not going to be good for him."

Lil Nas X - true name Montero Lamar Hill - says there is still a lot of work to be done in terms of acceptance for the LGBT community in society.

"We still have a long way to go, because it's not like everybody is messing with me now. 'Of course somebody who's listening to me in school right now, it's like, 'You're gay, produce you're listening to him.' There's still lot to be done."
