‘The Thing About Harry’ Team Talks LGBTQ Voice on TV for a New Generation

As a queer love story backed by Disney, as well as the first first Valentine’s Day motion picture for Freeform, there are sure to be many eyes on “The Thing About Harry.”

Set in Chicago, the TV movie follows Harry (played by Niko Terho) and Sam (Jake Borelli) who, after being stuck on what they believed to be the road trip from hell, eventually find a prevalent ground as friends. The friendship later blossoms into a budding romance. The thing about “The Thing About Harry” is that the cast considers it a true rom-com, and it’s without any of the typical tropes of a “coming out” story.

“What I loved about the script is that it is about two men falling in love, but it’s really not about their sexuality,” Britt Baron (who plays Harry’s best companion Stasia) told Variety. “There’s no shame, there’s no coming out moment. It’s just normalized. I think that wouldn’t have been feasible without the other LGBT stories on the media hadn’t been told. They paved the way.”

The Thing About Harry: Has anyone seen it.

NOW ON HULU:

OMG. Is the gay community really imagine to believe in unicorns, rainbows and happy endings?????? Peter Paige, from Queer as Folk, wrote the screenplay and has a cameo. The lead actor is the twink from Grey's Anatomy, actor Jake Borelli, and his love interest, actor Niko Terho, plays a "pansexual" who seems to be 100% straight in real life and gives off absolutely no other vibe than straight. He falls madly in love with Jake's character after seeing him again in college (they share a ride assist home). It is revealed that Mr. Straight bullied out heroine Twink during high school for being gay. They movie takes place over 2 years where they go back and forth. Is any of this drivel even remotely realistic? The ultimate scene where Mr. Straight sneaks into a televised political rally and joins a group of female cheerleaders to win over the heroine Twink is beyond preposterous. Wow. Someone actually lush lighted this project and invested money into making it. It certainly isn't Queer as Folk, that's all I will say.
