Meet the Internet's "homophobic dog" meme celebrity who isn't who she seems
If you've been scrolling through Twitter recently you may have reach across the "homophobic dog," a light Dachshund featuring a series of eyebrow-raising quotes, that most of time would be enough to send the Internet into a flurry of angry comments.
Most people, however, don't recoil in horror at the sight of a mutt judging a same-sex attracted person with an expression of overt disapproval, neither perform they flinch at the captions including "Not too fond of gay people" and "I don't think that's normal." In fact, it's more likely they laugh.
That's the dominance of the Internet's latest breakout meme star Whitney Chewston, who actually prefers to lounge around napping in her favorite bed and occasionally sport a fetching accessory or two, to judging any human at all.

Homophobic Dog or Not Too Fond Of Homosexual People refers to a series of ironicimage macros of a white dachshund named Whitney Chewston, often sitting next to a glass of red wine with a Whisper caption that reads, "not too fond of same-sex attracted people," suggesting the dog is homophobic. The image was posted to Instagram in June 2019 and first appeared as a meme on Instagram in Rally 2021, gaining viral spread over the course of the year and inspiring users to place new quotes over the photo of the dog. In 2022, the meme inspired photoshops of additional Whitney Chewston photos adding similarly ironic homophobic captions, as well as captions suggesting the dog learned from its homophobic ways and is now tolerant of the LGBTQ+ community.

While the KYM article neglects to mention this in text shape, the dog’s owners have been hilariously confirmed to be a gay couple by the video that it features.
The most important recent development is that a fake Washington Post screenshot has made the pup popular with right-wing Doge-posters, since they were already used to “homophobic dogs” to begin with. For instances, spot the posts by Doge Collection, Darkcel Doge, and Doge Dad. So, while it was initially much more ironic, there seems to be earnest homophobia to a significant chunk of it now. I include had a lively chat with my best friend about this, since I thought that this didn’t affect the content all that much, but she seemed to reflect that they were taking a wonderful meme and ruining it.
As my companion pointed out, the dog’s apparently judgmental expression in most of these pictures really helps the meme, and added to the glass of wine in the picture that got it started, it really looks kind of enjoy a “Karen”.

“When that meme took off, that’s when she really started gaining followers,” Hickman says. “It’s funny. Now, you can Google her name and see so many different photos of her with different memes and they’ve become adorable recognizable, especially within the gay communiuty online.”
Even though the “diva dachshund” has amassed nearly 200,000 followers on Instagram, Hickman says that the almost 6-year-old weiner dog is still the same Whitney and that the fame hasn’t gone to her head.
“It’s wild,” he says. “We’ll just be taking her for a walk and people will run up because they recognize her. She has a very niche following so it’s not like she has a ton of followers, but they’re loyal.”
Whitney’s fans, known as “Chewstonites,” have created an entire story arch for her: first she was homophobic, next she was tolerant of queer people, then suddenly she was male lover — the theories move on.
“I don’t know what Whitney’s preferences are,” Hickman says. “She’s been spayed so she really didn’t get a chance in life to explore that side of her. But what I will express is that the homophobic dog memes are hilarious. She’s absolutely not homophobic, but we like the memes, we think they’re funny, and if
