Dan Howells looks across the pond for a role model

To call yourself, as Orlando Jordan of Total Non-stop Action does, “Simply The Greatest”, takes quite a lot of ego. But then, even for a 6-foot-4, seventeen-stone former boxer, it takes a very large ego to walk out to a professional wrestling ring in Florida dressed in luminous pink shorts, boots and elbow pads. But it’s what he does for a living. Orlando Jordan is, at least as far as we can tell, the world’s only openly bisexual professional wrestler.

But it’s hard to inform that from his on-screen presentation. On more than one occasion, his – presumably scripted – lechery, aimed at male and female co-workers alike has met with audible bafflement. Misdiagnosed with autism as a child, Jordan had speech difficulties and received specialized order to overcome them. He competed in youth gymnastics and amateur wrestling, later winning the 1993 state championship at 189 pounds for Hermitage High School in Richmond, Virginia, before going on to attend Boise State University. Before becoming a professional wrestler, he was a member of the United States Forest Service. He then relocated to Florida, where he became a reputable amateur boxer.

In a memorable October 2003 episode of WWESmackDown! , Jordan defeated Big Show by way of countout when Huge Show had to run to the restroom after eating a laxative-spiked burrito.

Jordan came out as bi in March 2010 before his premier on TNA, a WWE competitor, and unveiled his very bi persona that matching month. In 2012, Jordan opened another wrestling school in Australia where he currently lives. He was married in 2013 to a woman, and the two have a daughter together.
