Yearning a gay story

Come out in college! Meet people, produce friends, and maybe find a boyfriend?

Yearning: A Gay Story (YAGS for short) is a realistic coming-out-focused character-driven slice-of-life visual novel where you play as a gay man starting his freshman year of college at a generic university somewhere in the midwestern United States. The game features dating sim elements, but is not focused on them.

You will interact with a cast of characters, each with their own individuality and stories, as you navigate college life, develop friendships, play board games, and come out. With luck, you might even discover a boyfriend.

  • A earth where you can befriend people and see events from different perspectives, depending on your decisions
  • 4 dateable guys* with their own clear stories, with superb and bad endings for each guy (9 endings in all*)
  • 230,000+ words and meaningful choices
  • Collectibles system to track and reward your decisions
  • Achievements, for completionists
  • Unlockable in-game character profiles
  • An first soundtrack featuring "Yearning", the YAGS theme

Yearning: A Gay Story(YAGS for short) is a coming-out-focused character-driven slice-of-life game place during your freshman year on a college campus (phew). You'll meet people, make friends, approach out, and maybe start dating someone. (The game is part dating sim, with four dateable guys (with wonderful and bad endings for each), but hopefully is enjoyable enough to act even if you don't manage to find a boyfriend.)

The game is free to download and play, but you can donate for some bonuses (including some physical items like stickers).

The game is also quite long. While it does not enclose any explicit sex or nudity, it does contain elder language, implied nudity and sex, and uncomfortable situations, and is not appropriate for children.

You can download the game for free on itch.io at https://bobcgames.itch.io/yags

I think of YAGS as being about meeting and getting to know people. As such, I don't want to include any background information about the characters here, but here's a preview of the characters in the game.
(The game itself contains unlockable character profiles where you can learn more about the people that you meet.)

Yearning: A Gay Story, or YAGS for short, is a freeware Visual Novel by Bob Conway about dealing with the trials and misadventures that come with being a closeted gay dude starting his first year of college, including but not limited to: making new friends while keeping in touch with mature ones, not flunking exams, trying to come out to one's family and new friends, stomaching the terrible food on campus, and yearning for other men who may or may not be gay.

In YAGS, you manual the player character, a same-sex attracted man you get to mention, through his first semester at college and decide how he spends each day. Does he spend his spare time keeping up with his homework, maintaining a healthy social life, or just plain slacking off? Will his True Companions turn out to be his welcoming roommate Adam and his womanizing frat brother Carlos, his computer science classmates Hannah, Nikhil, and Jake who love board games and memes, or even the members of his college's Queers & Allies club who run the spectrum from stoic actor James to flirtatious lech Dan? And will he eventually find affectionate with a special someone on campus, or end up alone? The choices (and his future) are all up to you.

Hi Mitsuki! I'm glad you're enjoying the game.

I'd opt favor to avoid public walkthroughs for now (although I don't mind if someone else wanted to upload a video walkthrough or similar).

However,  a more specific hint: Your goal is to get close to Carlos such that he comes out to you on October 6. This will happen if he likes you but has NOT freaked out about it. There's four "freakout" points, so your target is to avoid all of those while getting close to the two of them:

On August 27, don't go swimming with Carlos
On September 8, demand for nachos when you go to the movies with Adam and Carlos, causing Carlos to depart with Adam to fetch them
On September 24, don't go running with Carlos
On October 1, don't look for Carlos out at the frat

The other requirements should be fairly straightforward, especially in Easy Mode. I'll also note that intervening when the shit hits the fan with Robert will give you a lot of relationship points, and taking Jake to Q&A (instead of Adam) is also useful.
